Power Sanders

Power Sander is one of those useful equipments that carpenters and woodworkers rely one to make their craft beautiful. The main purpose of a power sander is to improve the quality and feel of wood. It definitely makes a big difference on how the wood appears. There are different types of sanders that have various uses and unique applications.

It started with humble beginnings in the world of woodworking, sanders are used to smoothen and change the shape of the wood. Unfortunately, it was a consuming and painstaking process that a furniture or carving may take a long time to be finished. Hours upon hours were invested to come up with a great masterpiece.

Fast forward to the future, now power sanders are now available in the market for such purpose. This invention really changed the speed of production and efficiency of work. It is described as a motorized tool that is used to sand contours and shapes wood. Cabinet refinishing, applying new paint, and other methods require power sanding.

There are many types of power sanders available today, in supermarkets and online stores. These are Power Belt Sander, Power Detail Sander, Power Finish Sander, Orbital Sander, Power Floor Sander, Floor Sander, Belt Sander, Finish Sander, Drywall Sander, and Power Drywall Sander. Each of these has their own specializations that make one unique.

Belt Sanders utilizes a continuous belt of manufactured material that is abrasive. The belt runs over a pulley at one end and idler pulley with the other one. While the rear pulley provides power through a chain while the front one is freely riding. The belt normally travels at 1,300 feet per minute and are usually between three to four inches in width.

Other sanders are Orbital Sander and Finishing Sander, which maybe similar in appearance and in their functionality. Most are usually combined as one since it only takes a selector switch to activate each operation. These are used for finishing work than the previous sander.

The orbital sander frequently provides a good result. The finishing sander is important when it is necessary for the sandpaper to move along a certain plane. Orbital sanders usually operate between the range of 4,000 to 10,000 orbits per minute while the finishing sander at 4,000 opm.
